Mumbai BMC Election Results LIVE: BJP-led Mahayuti crosses majority mark as vote counting continues. Check latest trends, exit polls, turnout, and full analysis.
The counting of votes for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections is currently underway. According to early trends, the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance has crossed the majority mark of 114 seats, indicating a strong performance in the country’s richest civic body. The alliance is followed by Shiv Sena (UBT).
Counting is being conducted for 227 wards, though results for at least two wards have been temporarily put on holddue to counting discrepancies and EVM-related issues. The State Election Commission (SEC) is overseeing the counting process.
The BMC elections were held on Thursday after a delay of nearly four years. As per official data, the voter turnout stood at 52.90%, with more than 54 lakh voters casting their ballots. Along with the BMC, elections were also held for 28 other municipal corporations across Maharashtra, the results of which will be declared today.
The elections were originally scheduled for 2022 but were postponed due to multiple factors, including the COVID-19 pandemic, disputes over ward delimitation, and legal challenges related to OBC reservation in local body elections.
Exit Poll Predictions
Exit polls had earlier projected a clear lead for the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance. According to JVC Exit Poll, the alliance was expected to win 138 seats, while the Shiv Sena (UBT)-led alliance was projected to secure 59 seats.
Similarly, Axis My India predicted that the BJP alliance could win 131–151 seats, with Shiv Sena (UBT) likely to get 58–68 seats.
Background
In the 2017 BMC elections, Shiv Sena emerged as the single largest party with 84 seats, closely followed by the BJP with 82 seats. Congress won 31 seats, while the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) secured 7 seats.
Since then, Maharashtra’s political landscape has changed significantly following splits in both the Shiv Sena (2022) and the Nationalist Congress Party (2023). The factions led by Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar joined hands with the BJP to form the Mahayuti alliance, while Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (SP), and Congress formed the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).
