IMD issues weather alert: thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds across 13 states
The India Meteorological Department has forecast widespread thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds up to 60 km/h in 13 Indian states, along with ongoing cold wave conditions that may affect travel, agriculture, and daily routines.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for widespread thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and strong winds across 13 states in India over a 12-hour period starting January 27, 2026. This system is expected to impact parts of North and Central India, bringing dynamic weather changes.
Several northern states—including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh—are forecast to experience both rainfall and gusty winds, while cold wave conditions persist in at least 23 districts. Meteorologists warn that the combination of unstable weather and cold fronts could disrupt travel and outdoor activities.
Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution, especially in flood-prone areas and during travel. Farmers are also advised to monitor weather updates closely, as sudden rainfall and wind patterns could affect standing crops and harvest operations.
