India’s First Vande Bharat Sleeper Train to Begin Commercial Service Between Kamakhya and Howrah on January 22

India is set to take a major leap in long-distance rail travel with the launch of its first Vande Bharat Sleeper train, which will commence commercial operations from January 22. The new semi-high-speed sleeper service will operate between Kamakhya (near Guwahati) and Howrah, offering a modern and comfortable overnight travel experience.

The new-generation train will be operated and maintained by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), marking a significant milestone for rail connectivity in eastern and northeastern India.

According to Indian Railways, Train No. 27576 Kamakhya–Howrah Vande Bharat Sleeper Express will begin its commercial run on January 22, while Train No. 27575 Howrah–Kamakhya Vande Bharat Sleeper Express will start operations from January 23.

Days of Operation

• Kamakhya–Howrah (27576): Runs on all days except Wednesday

• Howrah–Kamakhya (27575): Runs on all days except Thursday

Route and Stoppages

The Vande Bharat Sleeper Express will halt at 13 stations along the route:

• Bandel

• Nabadwip Dham

• Katwa

• Azimganj

• New Farakka

• Malda Town

• Aluabari Road

• New Jalpaiguri

• Jalpaiguri Road

• New Cooch Behar

• New Alipurduar

• New Bongaigaon

• Rangiya

Coach Composition

The Howrah–Kamakhya–Howrah Vande Bharat Sleeper train will consist of 16 fully air-conditioned coaches, including:

• 11 AC 3-Tier coaches

• 4 AC 2-Tier coaches

• 1 AC First Class coach

A total of two rakes will be deployed on the Howrah–Guwahati route.

Timings and Journey Duration

• Howrah–Kamakhya (27575):

  • Departure: 18:20 hrs

  • Arrival: 08:20 hrs (next day)

• Kamakhya–Howrah (27576):

  • Departure: 18:15 hrs

  • Arrival: 08:15 hrs (next day)

The total journey time for the route will be approximately 14 hours.

The launch of the Vande Bharat Sleeper train is expected to redefine overnight rail travel, combining speed, comfort and modern amenities for long-distance passengers.
