BMC Election Results: Kangana Ranaut Hails BJP Victory, Says ‘Janta Has Given a Fitting Reply’

Actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has welcomed the BJP-led alliance’s decisive performance in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, calling the outcome a strong verdict by the people of Maharashtra.

Congratulating the party leadership, Ranaut praised Narendra Modi and Devendra Fadnavis for what she described as a historic win in the country’s richest civic body. Speaking to NDTV, she said the result marked a major political shift in Mumbai’s civic landscape.

The outcome also carries personal significance for the actor-turned-politician. In 2020, when the undivided Shiv Sena was in power, the BMC demolished portions of her Mumbai bungalow, an action later termed “malice in law” by the Bombay High Court. With the Shiv Sena now losing control of the civic body, Ranaut described the verdict as a moment of justice.

Referring to past events, she said those who targeted and threatened her had now been rejected by the people. “Maharashtra has left them,” she remarked, adding that the electorate had shown “women-haters, bullies and nepotism-driven forces” their place.

Seat Trends

As per available trends for 210 of the 227 wards, the BJP was leading in 90 seats, while the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena was ahead in 28 wards. The Ajit Pawar-led NCP, which contested independently, was leading in only three wards.

In the opposition camp, Shiv Sena (UBT) and its ally Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) were leading in 57 and nine wards, respectively. The Congress, contesting alongside the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi, was ahead in 15 wards, while others led in eight.

These figures indicate a clear end to Shiv Sena (UBT)’s long-standing dominance over the BMC.

Candidates in the Fray

The BJP contested 137 seats, the Shiv Sena 90, while the Ajit Pawar faction of the NCP fielded candidates in 94 wards. On the opposition side, Shiv Sena (UBT) contested 163 seats, MNS 52, Congress 143, and the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi 46.

Broader Political Message

Results from the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal elections also sent a strong political signal, suggesting that the influence of the Pawar brand in urban centres is no longer decisive. Despite coordination between the two NCP factions led by Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar, the expected consolidation of votes did not materialise.
