Dense fog, cold wave and fresh western disturbance to affect North & Central India
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warns of dense fog, severe cold wave conditions and intermittent rainfall/snow with a fresh western disturbance affecting large parts of northern and central India.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather advisory as parts of northern and central Indiacontinue to experience severe cold wave conditions, widespread dense fog, and localized thunderstorms with hail. A fresh western disturbance is forecast to affect the region from January 30 onwards, potentially bringing additional rain and snowfall in the Western Himalayas and adjacent plains.
Dense fog has significantly reduced visibility in areas such as Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh, disrupting road and air travel. Cold wave warnings remain in force for states such as Punjab, Haryana, Bihar, and other northern plains, where temperatures are expected to remain well below seasonal averages.
In the eastern and northeastern regions, thunderstorms with hail have already been reported in Bengal and Sikkim, reflecting the dynamic and volatile weather pattern affecting a broad swathe of the country. Residents are advised to take precautionary measures against cold stress and travel disruptions.
